The Color Purple
in
Philadelphia
With producers including Oprah Winfrey and Harvey Weinstein, The Color Purple comes from the Pulitzer winning book by Alice Walker and has also inspired the Spielberg movie of the same name (The Color Purple the movie which stared Woopie Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey). The story chronicals the life of a woman who perseveres and finds hope in the face of adversity. This moving musical production includes music of all types, like gospel, blues, jazz. Hope and power can be found in things as simple as the color purple.
Having arrived on Broadway, to the Broadway Theatre in New York City, on December 2005. The opening night cast included LaCanze as Celle (who won the 2006 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical), and Brandon Dixon as Harpo. On broadway the production usualy runs almost 3 hours with one intermission.
