Marshall Tucker Band
in
Santa Barbara
The Marshall Tucker Band originally gained recognition through a tour with the Allman Brothers Band and found significant success during the course of the '70s, with most of their albums going gold. Their peak came with the million-selling album Carolina Dreams and its Top 15 single "Heard It in a Love Song" in 1977. The band earned hit singles with "Fire on the Mountain," "Can’t You See" and "Take the Highway." They earned seven gold and three platinum albums on the Capricorn Records label. During the 1990s, they placed four hit singles on Billboard’s country charts and one on Billboard’s gospel chart.
The Marshall Tucker Band is currently touring with Doug Gray (Lead Vocals), Pat Elwood (Bass Guitar), Chris Hicks (Guitars), Stuart Swanlund (Slide Guitar), B.B. Borden (Drums) and David Muse (Keyboards, Saxophone & Flute, Vocals).
According to lead singer, Doug Gray, "People have gotten ‘married and buried’ to classic MTB songs like "Desert Skies" and "Can’t You See." After nearly 30 years, The Marshall Tucker Band continues to be played on classic rock and country radio, and they have never stopped touring.
Gray also notes, "We never play less than 150 shows a year, and sometimes we play as many as 200 shows. We feel we owe it to the fans that have supported us through the years to deliver the music in person."
"We’re still playing all of the classic songs, but we are moving ahead into other styles as well. We’re also playing for a younger audience than we have in the past, perhaps to the kids of the fans we played in front of in the 70’s and 80’s."
Other Marshall Tucker Band hits include, "Can't You See," "Blue Ridge Mountain Sky," "Dream Lover," "Bob Away My Blues," "24 Hours at a Time," "Fire on the Mountain," "Another Cruel Love" and "Am I the Kind of Man?"
"As we’ve become older," Gray grins, eyes twinkling, "our Southern heritage seems to come out even more. But no matter how old we get, we can still rock your socks off."
The show at Trump Marina benefits D.A.R.E., a popular youth drug abuse resistance program which was founded in Los Angeles in 1983. D.A.R.E. is now being implemented in 75 percent of our nation's school districts and in more than 43 countries around the world. D.A.R.E. is a police officer-led series of classroom lessons that teaches children from kindergarten through 12th grade how to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives.
