Jonny Lang
in
Milwaukee
Jonny Lang has wanted to be involved in music ever since he could remember. He learned first on the saxophone, and then - inspired by a guitarist in a live band performance - he picked up the guitar. At age 13, he joined a band where the other group members were in their mid-twenties, and began to play the blues professionally.
In 1997, at age 16, he released his debut album, Lie to Me, which jumped to the top of the new artist album charts. He swept the category of Best New Guitarist in Guitar magazine’s reader’s poll. With a poise and maturity beyond his years, Lang has been since performing, writing songs, and handling an ever-growing fame. He’s toured with Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, B.B. King and Blues Traveler, and appeared in a cameo role, performing 6345789 in the movie, Blues Brothers 2000.
In Wander This World, Lang’s second release, he branched out from blues into R&B, rock and ballads. Wander This World features the heartfelt ballad, "Breakin’ Me," as well as the funky track, "Still Rainin’." His latest release, Long Time Coming, celebrates several "firsts." It’s the first time Jonny wrote or co-wrote all but one of the tracks, and also the first time he co-produced an album. He says it is an autobiography of sorts, as many of the tracks reflect who he is.
Fans of all generations enjoy Lang’s music, which takes a refreshing approach rather than the "flash and gimmicks" used by most young guitarists. The late Luther Allison said, "Jonny Lang has the power to move music into the next millennium by reaching the ears of a new generation. The great musicians have the power to break all of the "isms" - race, age, sex, etc. Jonny Lang is one of those musicians."
