George Thorogood & The Destroyers
in
Grand Rapids
After 12 CDs, 1200-plus concerts and 15 million records sold, George Thorogood still enjoys rocking the house. His exuberance for the music is even more pronounced than it was at the beginning.
Thorogood began his career in 1970 after seeing a performance by blues musician John Paul Hammond. Three years later, he had put together George Thorogood and the Destroyers and the group quickly became a favorite on the blues/rock circuit. The group's early hits included "I Drink Alone," "Willie and the Hand Jive," and "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer." George Thorogood & the Destroyers earned four gold albums in the 1970s and 1980s. The group rose to fame with the 1982 hit, "Bad to the Bone," which received extensive airplay on MTV.
Audience members will be able to enjoy Thorogood's signature guitar licks and passionate vocals.
The intensity of the band members - drummer Jeff Simon, bassist Bill Blough, sax demon Hank Carter and
guitarist Jim Suhler - add a distinctive dynamic that makes the group stronger than ever.
A rebel from the start, Thorogood has fought against turning his music strictly into a commercial venture. "When I grew up listening to people like Chuck Berry and Little Richard, they were singing songs
about having fun," he said. "It felt natural. I think people get much too serious about rock. I don't. If that
makes me different, so be it."
