Chaka Khan is hot off the release of her new album Classikhan which encompasses a wide range of hits from Lena Horne's "Stormy Weather" to the James Bond classic "Goldfinger." Khan is accompanied by the London Symphony Orchestra on Peggy Lee's "Is That All There Is?" and "The Best Is Yet To Come." Blending music genres from pop to hip hop with her classic and soulful voice has created an album that is sure to add to her legacy another
unique and powerful collaboration.
Commenting on the variety of her new album, Khan says, "I'm sure some of them - like 'Hey Big Spender,' the James Bond tunes and 'To Sir With Love' - may surprise some people. I did 'Hey Big Spender' just because I love it...and 'Goldfinger'? - now that was a challenge! I was trying to think how the lyrics might apply to a modern-day girl and the whole 'bling-bling'
thing came to mind. I guess it's a warning song - like beware of the 'bling-bling'!"
Khan's career spans three decades and has produced hits like "Sweet Thing," "What Cha Gonna Do for Me," and "I'm Every Woman" earning her six Grammys. Vibe Magazine referred to her as a "power mover" and recognized her for the "timeless body of musical works that she has contributed to the recording industry." Khan's music has influenced artists including Kanye West who had a huge hit with "Through the Wire" (which contained samples of "Through the Fire"), Mary J. Blige who covered "Sweet Thing" and Whitney Houston who covered "I'm Every Woman."
