Trump Plaza and Jersey Shore Entertainment continue the "Broadway on the Boardwalk" theatre series with "42nd Street," a musical based on the 1933 motion picture. It's a backstage story that focuses on a naive young actress who auditions for a new Broadway extravaganza.
In 1980, under the watchful eye of legendary producer David Merrick, "42nd Street" began a run that lasted for 3,486 performances, making it one of the longest-running hits in the history of Broadway. It went on to win the Tony Award for the Best Musical in 1981. In 2001, a revival of "42nd Street" won the Tony Award for Best Musical Revival. It ended January 2, 2005 after another successful run which lasted for over 1600 performances.
