The 2005 San Diego Padres finished 3rd in the NL West last year and will look to get faster for this season. The main piece to the puzzle was aquireing Dave Roberts from the World Series Champion Boston Red Sox for Jay Payton, utilityman Ramon Vazquez, minor league pitcher David Pauley and $2.65 million. Over the last three seasons Roberts has averaged 39 stolen bases. Along with power hitters Brian Giles, Phil Nevin and Ryan Klesko the Padres should have more chances to score.
