The Jacksonville Jaguars finally got passed a losing streak that lasted four seasons last year by having a winning season, and almost making the playoffs. The 2005 NFL season for the Jaguars looks bright. Quarterback Byron Leftwich got one more year of raw NFL familiarity under his belt, throwing for 15 touchdowns last season. However, the defense of the Jaguars is expected to be much improved. The Jaguars have added Reggie Hayward who played for the Denver Broncos last season, and led that team with a team high of 10.5 sacks.
The Jaguars also have other critical players that should make their offense a
legitimate threat. Running back Fred Taylor has had three straight 1,000 yard season, however, he only recorded eight rushing touchdowns. In order for the Jaguars
to make that next step Taylor will need to produce in terms of points. Also, wide out Jimmy Smith is a 36 year old veteran that is a consistent performer in
the NFL. Last season Smith led the Jaguars with 74 catches and 1,172 yards in total offense, in addition to six receiving touchdowns. Further, Smith has recorded eight 1,000 plus yards in receiving in the last eight of nine sesasons.
The
Jacksonville Jaguars are poised to make something out of the 2005 NFL Season. Keeping that in mind fans of the Jaguars should look to December 11th, 2005 as
the Jaguars and Colts play in Jacksonville for what could be a deciding game for the AFC South Division Title.
