The 2005 Orioles have many reasons to be optimistic this season. One of those reasons is a big one when they acquired All-Star right fielder Sammy Sosa. Sosa, acquired from the Cubs in February for second baseman Jerry Hairston Jr. and two minor leaguers makes an already potent lineup stronger. After wearing out his welcome in Chicago, Sosa is ready to show he's still one of the game's top hitters. Another bright spot for Baltimore is 26-year-old lefthander Erik Bedard. Bedard threw 137 1/3 innings last year in his first full season since Tommy John surgery in '02. Bedard also had 121 strikeouts, the most among rookies.
